The Collaborative Language Tool is part of the Tools, Tasks, and Templates resources in InsightMath. This tool is designed to support students’ expressive and productive language during math learning by providing sentence frames they can use in discussions, explanations, and written responses.
🖨️ Note: Teachers will need to print and prepare this tool for students. It is introduced during Unit 0 (in Lesson 3, 4, or 5, depending on the grade level) and instructions for preparing the tool are given within the Prep Notes section of the lesson. The files are available in the TTT Blackline Master Book or from the Resources section in the Digital Planning Guide.

Differentiated Language Support
Each version of the Collaborative Language Cards includes two levels of sentence frames:
Simpler frames on one side to support emerging language use.
More advanced frames on the other side to challenge and extend student thinking.
This design allows students to self-select the level of support that matches their comfort and confidence.
Best Practices for Use
Make the cards accessible so students can use them at any time during lessons.
Encourage students to choose the frame that helps them share their thinking.
Use the cards to promote equitable participation in partner, small group, and whole-class discussions.
The Collaborative Language Tool provides an important scaffold to help students communicate mathematically, build confidence, and engage in rich math conversations.
